Basketball Without Borders

Paterson NJ Community Outreach

Basketball Without Borders is a developmental and community outreach program that uses the sport of basketball to influence a positive social change. NBA players and coaches donate their time to teach kids basketball skills. But, most importantly, players speak about the importance of education, leadership, character, healthy living, and HIV/Aids awareness and prevention. Basketball Without Borders partners with Habitat for Humanity to build local housing.

My wife Patricia and I were fortunate to accompany the NBA. We were witness to how the NBA players, coaches, staff and workforce provide humanitarian assistance to communities that really need it throughout the world. A story that most people will never read about. We were able to deliver over 5,000 tooth brushes collected from many generous communities.

Dr. Bauer, along with a team of dentists representing NYU, traveled to the rural village of Chiquilistagua, Nicaragua, a town of 11,000 people with no dentist. The team set up a temporary clinic and treated patients for and entire week.
